What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is not a filler all on its own, rather it is an agent of stimulation to your body’s natural collagen-producing ability. Over the course of about 2 years, your body will metabolize the Sculptra that has been injected and will replace it with your own natural collagen production.
As we age, our body slowly decreases its own production of collagen, a structural protein found in our connective tissue. Collagen is the substance that prevents premature aging; it gives our skin its healthy, plump, smooth appearance. Over time, we lose facial volume, the results of which are sagging skin, “hollows”, fine lines, wrinkles, and an aging appearance. An effective series of Sculptra injections will assist your body in filling in its own collagen-deficient areas – including scarring resulting from minor injuries or acne. Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra doesn’t create a pillow-like effect beneath the skin’s surface, therefore clients will not experience puffiness or a “doughy” outcome. Best of all, the results will continue to develop for several weeks to months, giving a gradual return to a natural, healthy glow.
Physician-formulated in 2004 for the treatment of severe fat loss, Sculptra is composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a biodegradable molecule a substance similar in composition to dissolvable sutures that is harmless to the body and is easily broken down and absorbed. Using a proprietary blend of anesthetics, we employ a topical numbing agent to your skin prior to the injections. Aside from a numb sensation, there is very little to no discomfort whatsoever, all without the need for invasive plastic surgery or liposuction.

Sculptra is highly effective for use in treatment areas including:

  • Face – Forehead wrinkles, smile lines, sagging jowls/jaw line, sunken cheeks, sunken temples,
    crow’s feet, acne scarring
  • Décolletage
  • Hands
  • Arms
  • Cellulite
  • Stretch Marks
  • Buttocks
  • Hip Dips
  • Sagging knees
It should be noted that thinner patients, older patients, and patients who exercise rigorously may require extra Sculptra injected or possibly additional treatment sessions. Typically, clients require a minimum of three treatment sessions over a period of several months. The number of these injection sessions and the duration of time in between treatment sessions vary from person to person. It is expected that within 4-6 months of treatment you will see the full cosmetic benefit of your Sculptra injections.
Sculptra clients are advised to refrain from alcohol, blood thinners, aspirin, multivitamins, Vitamin E, fish oil and any other herbal supplements which can cause bleeding or bruising, for a period of at least one week prior to your procedure. Further, we strongly recommend taking oral Arnica Montana before and after you receive Sculptra treatment in an effort to minimize bruising afterward and hasten healing. The most important after care is known as the “Rule of 5’s” – all patients are strongly advised to massage the treated area five times a day, for five minutes per massage, for five consecutive days. Massaging the treated area in this way prevents nodules from forming and keeps the Sculptra particles dispersed in the affected tissue. This will prevent too much collagen to form in the area treated
You can resume normal activity directly after your Sculptra treatment. For those who choose to do so, makeup may be applied immediately after treatment.

Am I A Good Candidate for Sculptra?

Sculptra is also not recommended for patients who keloid or have a history of hypertrophic scarring. Clients who suffer from autoimmune problems or who are immunocompromised, including conditions like such as Rheumatoid arthritis, MS, Lupus, or vasculitis, are not candidates for Sculptra. For those who are or may become pregnant, who are breastfeeding, or under the age of 18, Sculptra is not advised.
